The Mothers’ Union visited Otaten on Sunday, October 22, 2023, to fellowship with them.
The service started at 11 am with Anglican Hymn 4. The readings for the day were taken from Exodus 33:12 to the end, Psalm 99, and Matthew 22:15–20.
Rev. Fr. Solomon Mensah Commey thanked the Mothers’ Union for deeming it fit to honour their invitation despite how small they were in the Diocese.
He added that Otaten was a Ga community predominantly but had other tribes such as Ewes, Akans, and Northerners, too.
While addressing members, he touched on the need for the Anglican Church to be active in the affairs of its schools, as he believes the dwindling numbers of members was a result of the church isolating itself from its schools.
The President, Mother Wilhelmina Graves, also gave a short address stating the aims and objects of the Union and adding that the Union had not only honoured the invitation to Otaten but also brought along several items, which included foodstuffs, clothing and toiletries.
Mother Elizabeth Addo-Quaye also educated members on personal hygiene and the need to keep their surroundings clean. She indicated that it was important for one to be mindful of what they eat and also boil their water before drinking.
Mother Grace Tetteh added that they could use alum as an alternative for deodorant.
Mother Grace Bulley advised the children to respect their elders, take their education seriously, and not absent themselves from school.
The children also took turns to sing and quote memory verses and it was a delight watching them.
During the offering, the fundraising envelopes were collected, after which Mothers shared various gifts with the children who were very happy to receive them.
In his closing remarks, Father Commey pointed out that love was measured by sacrifice, and by coming to Otaten, the Mothers’ Union had clearly demonstrated that.
The benediction was given and the service came to a close at 1:05 pm
